Where Does May the Fourth Come From?
May the Fourth, or “Star Wars Day” as it’s called by some, originated as a play on the phrase, “May the Force be with you,” a line that is uttered in some variation in every Star Wars movie released to date. Recognizable characters such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker have said it, as well as non-Jedi characters in both the movies and the animated Star Wars incarnations on TV. A variation of the phrase, “The Force will be with you, always,” can also be heard several times throughout the saga, and it, along with “May the Force be with you,” are intended to offer good wishes to those who are about to undertake a dangerous mission or task. It’s often used by those who are about to part ways, and who are not sure if they’ll ever see each other again.
